All of that is just fine with Aiko, who released her debut EP in 2013 and first full-length album last year. “It was a fun song. … I wanted my part to be funny and unexpected, and ironically ‘groceries’ rhymes with ‘Post to Be,’ so it works,” Aiko told MTV News. (The song’s title is a shortened locution of “supposed to be.”). And Aiko’s certainly not the first to sing about sex. Marvin Gaye treated the world to some “Sexual Healing” and Olivia Newton-John rubbed up against some barely dressed hunks in a shower in her video for “Physical,” a song that ends with: “Let’s get animal, animal” and “Let me hear your body talk.”.
Among Saturday’s featured artists are violinist Rachel Lee, a rapidly rising star and protégé of Itzhak Perlman; San Francisco Opera 25% off children's knitted ballet slippers, ballerina shoes, handmade knitted slippers soprano Kristin Clayton; the Golden Gate Boys Choir; and Symphony Silicon Valley under Daugherty’s baton, The evening is designed to make an irrefutable case for why “live music is so crucial to ballet and to dance,” says Daugherty, 57, from the lovingly restored Victorian “painted lady” near San Francisco’s Alamo Square neighborhood that he shares with his life and producing partner David Wong..
What: Broken Shadows Family Band. When & where: 8 p.m. May 31; Festival Central. The skinny: Trumpeter, composer and vocalist Darren Johnston has been an invaluable catalyst on the Bay Area’s improvised music scene since the late 1990s. Over the years he’s led an array of bands but nothing that draws on as wide of an array of traditions as Broken Shadows Family Band, a malleable ensemble that embraces graceful Arabic classical modes and raucous Macedonian wedding riffs, ethereal Ethiopian cadences and jazz improvisation. The band draws on a large pool of players, and for this incarnation, it features violinist/vocalist Matt Szemela, bassist Schuyler Karr, Middle Eastern percussionist/vocalist Faisal Zedan, and drummer Hamir Atwal.
