Bernard is the widow of Robert “Bob” Bernard, a 1942 graduate of Sequoia High School whose 28-year teaching career with the Redwood City School District also included being vice principal at McKinley Elementary School. The couple is parents of four children: Karen (deceased), Cherril, Robert, and Mark. President Laura Galey, of Bonita Parlor No. 10, introduced Suzi Riley, current Grand Vice President of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, who, in turn, welcomed the 90 people in attendance to honor Bernard. She also introduced past Grand Presidents Sharon Johnston, of San Juan Bautista Parlor No. 179, and Jean Koehl, of Gilroy Parlor No. 312, who made the presentation to Bernard.
