The Rotary Club of Pleasanton began at a time when the city was still a small town of about 6,000 residents. The original 26 charter members came from a varied background, including a service station owner, a carpet store owner, a television and radio repairman, a city engineer, a book publisher, an auctioneer, a Presbyterian minister and optometrist Don Roberts. “Rotary is a little different now than when it started,” Roberts recalled. “When we started, you tried to get one person from each occupation, so membership was a little more coveted, and you had to be invited … We met weekly; that’s what helps establish acquaintances and acceptance, and being able to share knowledge. For the first few years it was just a matter of getting acquainted, then we decided to put in ‘Welcome to the City’ signs, first on Sunol Boulevard up the hill from the freeway, then later two or three others. Then we collected money to get the hospital going.”.
The rampant sharing on YouTube quickly attracted a massive audience that loved watching what they wanted when they wanted, even if much of the material was being contributed by amateurs, YouTube’s rapid rise demonstrated that influential media hubs could be built around free content supplied by an Internet service’s users, Other companies that went on to embrace a similar strategy included Facebook, which limited its online social network to college and high school students until opening up the service to anyone 13 or older beginning in September 2006, That was just before YouTube’s whirlwind ballet flats near me success culminated in its $1.76 billion sale to Google..
Hafen has some first-rate backup in these production numbers. Dance standouts include Jessica Maxey, dance captain Christine Baker, Cheryl Ringman and Alicia Gangi. Though the cast is a relatively slim 22, most perform multiple roles. One of the comic highlights of the show comes when Hafen finagles her way into the apartment of handsome film star Vittorio Vidal (opera singer Adam Flowers) after he has a tiff with his tempestuous mistress Ursula (Sara Ris). Charity and Vittorio sip champagne, share stories and, when she realizes he’s not going to accept her “come hither” invitation as she lounges on his bed, she switches tactics and asks for his autographed picture and a memento or two to show her gal pals back at the Fandango. Suddenly Ursula shows up, so Charity grabs a sandwich and hides in Victorio’s closet — all night — while the two lovers make up. Hafen’s mugging antics in the closet are delightful.
