From fashion to films to food, the Festival of Globe’s 26th annual India Day Festival in Fremont celebrates all facets of Indian culture. The jam-packed schedule — it’s five days’ worth this year — culminates Aug. 19 in a grand parade of 30 floats and 100 cars in Fremont. First up is the Aug. 15-17 movie fest at the AMC Mercado in Santa Clara and an Aug. 17 night fashion fest at the India Community Center in Milpitas. Then the focal point becomes 39439 Paseo Padre Parkway in Fremont, where 200 booths will set up for the weekend-long cultural and health fair and carnival (mela). A dance competition runs all day Aug. 18, with performances Aug. 19 too.
An antidote to the art form’s inherently ephemeral nature, video can capture and preserve the details of movement and the process of creation, allowing choreographers to teach, preserve and share their work more accurately and widely than ever before, But the rise of video technology and the digital revolution that followed has also transformed our culture, and choreographer Jess Curtis is using his work to explore this very mixed blessing, From Dec, 4 through Dec, 14 at CounterPulse in San Francisco, Jess Curtis/Gravity presents the world premiere of “The Dance blank greeting card of young ballerina, ballet dancer on pointe, ballet artwork print // birthday cards, art prints, greetings b That Documents Itself,” a provocative piece that examines, as Curtis describes it, “the impact of the digital world on our artistic practices and … the impact of tech on the art and culture of San Francisco.”..
Much can be blamed on buying into the idea that there is only one kind of beautiful. The models that walk the runway weigh no more than 100 pounds. Magazines always seem to publish articles with titles such as “10 Ways to Lose Weight and Look Good” and a picture with a toned woman, with a flat stomach, tiny chest and perky butt. It’s never mentioned that you don’t have to look like that picture to look good. Today, when I look in the mirror, I see a healthy, happy 15-year-old girl who is definitely imperfect, but confident about her imperfect self and her imperfect body. I still see shadows of a time when there was consciousness and disappointment about my image, but I’m glad they’ve almost disappeared.

Music in the Park director Scott Canali says watching Mustache Harbor perform is a “blast.”. “We went to see them a few weeks ago and they had fans wearing yachting caps, so we’re having fun with that,” he said. Canali uses the word fun a lot when he talks about Music in the Park. For example, he and the other organizers are looking for volunteers to help run the shows. He stipulated that volunteers should be “fun, community-oriented and easy to work with.”.
