Those are the words of the Cat in the Hat inviting audience members to attend the Circus McGurkus. But the words could also apply to Seussical, a musical presented by Del Mar High School students that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages, according to its cast and director. “It’s such a fun show,” said senior Madelyne Forrester, who plays the Cat in the Hat. “You could be 90 or you could be 2 years old” and still enjoy it. The musical weaves together stories by Dr. Seuss, including Horton Hears a Who, Horton Hatches an Egg and The One Feather Tail of Gertrude McFuzz. The show will run Feb. 6 through Feb. 15.

The musical material ranges from a traditional carol medley to “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.”. “Some of our favorite songs, as the world became scarier, took on new meaning,” McCarley says. “There’s a lot of scary stuff going on in the world right now. A lot of people are dying in this country. We’ve had more mass shootings than days in the year. So some of these songs calling for peace and community, like ‘I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day,’ are taking on a much different tone, becoming so much more relevant to these times.”.

Indeed, walking the Stream Trail for the first time was an inspiration for artistic creator and festival founder Laura Inserra. “While I was walking, I saw the vision of doing a festival there, like the place was informing me about the possibility of such an event there,” she said. “The nature in this park is so beautiful and as an artist I know that there is no place we get our inspiration that is not nature.”.
