Berkeley police say Berlin stabbed a 72-year-old woman in the neck twice while trying to steal her 2000 Honda Civic around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 19 near the intersection of Russell and Otis streets. The victim was still hospitalized in critical condition Sept. 23. One person told police that they saw the victim on the ground by the Honda, appearing unconscious and bleeding from the face. There was a man in the driver’s seat trying to get the vehicle started, police said in a probable cause declaration.

Tree dreads apple, continued. As a big, awkward daughter who probably would have been fine with it, were it not for my parents’ continual efforts to make me dainty, I am sure that the worst thing such a girl would have to face is her mother’s embarrassment over her. Parents in this position need to get over it and love their daughters for who they are, and behave as if they expect the rest of the world to love them, too. Yes, there will be mean people, but a girl can learn to cope with them, especially if she knows her parents are behind her.
