Hoyrup said the most popular varieties of cherry tree are the someiyoshino, with a single-petaled blossom; the kanzan whose multiple petals give the impression of a giant pink cloud, and the weeping cherry. Hoyrup said the someiyoshino is popular in Japan, and the kanzan is an American favorite.
